He first spent many years working in road construction: sewer systems, paving, maintenance – a bit of everything. But at OVET, Marco Geldof is able to combine two of his interests: heavy machinery and shipping. “I’ve always been good with machines, but the maritime work is completely new to me,” he says.

Marco quickly discovered that the team spirit at OVET is strong. “We really pull together,” he says. “For example, if a ship has been unloaded and the quay needs to be cleared quickly for the next one, we all pitch in and get it done. As a team, we make the best of it.”

The atmosphere among colleagues is great. That also shows during company outings organized by the staff association. Recently, there was a canal cruise through Middelburg, and before that, they went on a tour with electric scooters. “That’s when you really get to know each other,” says Marco, “even the people working upstairs in the office.”

Since Marco started working at OVET, he has learned a lot , both theory and practice. Is there a lot of supervision? “Well, it doesn’t feel that way, but colleagues are always helpful and offer good tips.” Soon, he’ll begin training on the mobile floating crane to become an all-round crane operator. “I’m really enjoying myself here.”
